Cybersecurity Malaysia and MCS Microsystems sealed an agreement on smart card related projects and joint research
(Kuala Lumpur)
- CyberSecurity Malaysia and MCS Microsystems Sdn. Bhd. today announced their collaboration to establish a joint exercise in smart card-related projects and joint research and development programme in associated terminals and devices, including overall security assessment undertakings.
The Memorandum of Understanding that has been signed between both organizations covered smart card technology-based test services pertaining to applications in Trusted ID (national and commercial), transportation, banking, health, education, telecommunications and retail industries. The MoU also seeks to establish globally recognized security assurance levels of Malaysian projects encompassing card operating systems and applets, PC software, readers and terminals, and ICs.
“Being a Malaysian Security Evaluation Facility (MySEF) of the Common Criteria IT security standard, this collaboration enables CyberSecurity Malaysia to provide functionality test, vulnerability assessment, electrical test, performance benchmarking, physical inspection and reliability test services based on international standards,” said Lt. Col. Dato’ Husin Jazri (Retired), Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia.
Both parties are expected to establish requisite test laboratory facilities coupled with the sharing of research and development resources.
Dato’ Husin added, “This cooperation enhances CyberSecurity Malaysia’s position as the national cyber security specialist under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia and recognises MCS’ expertise within the Malaysian smart card industry”.
Amongst the benefits of this collaboration are that all activities will be using both parties test lab and facilities for testing, developing and conducting research on the smart card technologies, and engaging both the organizations expertise.
“This event marks a significant milestone in the establishment of a certified security assessment centre for smart card technology in Malaysia. And, such a facility will serve to provide both the public and private sectors a recognised avenue to seek security assurances on their smart technology based projects. We therefore very much look forward to meeting the security evaluation programs of all business communities,” said Mr. Chas Yap, Managing Director of MCS MiCroSystems Sdn. Bhd.
